It's an overwhelming and sensory filled world out there
If someone was asked to describe my likes and dislikes, they would probably say "she loves trampolining/sports, cats, being in water,...
The Autistic Asian is where I share with you what it is like being an Asian who is autistic. I hope to help people who may have experienced similar in their lives and are struggling to identify with others and navigate the Asian community. We all need to feel happy with our lives, but sometimes this doesn't truly happen until we discover who we are. I plan to share my life and childhood, growing up undiagnosed, how it has affected me and what diagnosis means to me.
My name is Tina and I am Autistic, I also have ADHD, am Asian and Female. I am married to a wonderful man and have two beautiful children (who are both also neurodiverse), I own and run my own business, oh and we have 4 cats...I love cats!
I grew up in Leicester with a "typical" Asian upbringing, where I was basically taught how to be a good housewife, not be seen or heard, to do as I was told and conform to make my parents "proud". I know many Asian children (especially girls) are brought up in a similar fashion and it can be incredibly difficult, however as an undiagnosed autistic, this added an extra element which was very unknown and misunderstood during the 80's and 90's.
